Homeownership
Amy and I moved to Arizona in December of 2019. Still fresh into our relationship we were’’t homeowners at the time and really had no foresight as to when and what we wanted to own. COVID hit, we spent a lot of time in our Scottsdale apartment and we quickly realized that we didn’t have a lot of space suitable to do everything that we wanted. Intent on just living in those conditions we just focused on our life at the moment and continued to navigate the current environment. Until one day, and one moment, and I remember this very vividly. I was sitting on the couch working my day job from home. I decided to take a break from the grind and read some news articles. I had come across one titled something like “Phoenix Housing Market Quickly becoming the fastest in the nation.” This naturally triggered my FOMO anxiety. I looked over to Amy and said “We should buy a house”. At this point we weren’t even engaged to be married so I was a little surpised when she said Ok. She took that directive and immediately started getting in touch with realtors. So we looked around and we looked around. Went home to Maine for a week. Got engaged. Then returned back to Phoenix. We met the realtor we eventaully ended up going with and in no time we had found the house that we were looking for. At this point the market was HOT. Our house had already had tens of offers and it wasn’t even on the market one weekend. So our realtor with all his great wisdom had us include in our offer(which wasn’t even the highest offer) a handwritten letter to the buyers. This letter was intended on trying to convince the buyers why we were the best people to buy their home. The letter was heartfelt and very well written. Apparently it did the trick because again we weren’t the highest offer.
So now we are officially home buyers. Thanks to my anxiety we had gotten in at the perfect time. Interest rates were low and it was at a point just before home prices skyrocketed into what they are today.
Now was the time to move into our house. We packed up our apartment and brought everything over to Mesa. As soon as we moved in we started to make the place OUR home. Now that your have a good background on the beginning of our journey on our next update I’ll start to share some of our improvements.
